Anthony watched in amusement as the pair of children headed towards the mansion, Amy babbled excitedly all the way. At least one of his concerns had been laid to rest. He'd been worried about the mental state of the young asian boy, worried that he'd maybe suffered from a personality disorder like Amys, but there was no further need to observe the boys mental condition quite so closely.
However the spirit of the Shinto monk that inhabited the boys psyche was still a puzzlement to the arcane mystic. This 'Rain' deserved, and required, further cautious investigation. Whatever happened no harm should come to the child who'd found his way here, to this sanctaury, this refuge from the world.
Maybe the friendship of Amy would help bring the lad out of his shell. Anthony also hoped that somehow the presence of the boy may trigger some memory or event that would explain the girls abnormal mental state. He'd still been unable to determine whether the 'voices' in her head were a figment of the imagination, trapped spirits, or something . . . else.
That something else could be a real worry if the potential power of the gods were released. He shuddered at the thought and looked on as the children finally entered the doorway to their home.

He decided it was best to give up the idea of understanding what Amy was saying, she was way too hyper to calm down enough for him to catch up. She reminded him of probably how his parents had seen him, at least until that last day. He hadn't really been the same person after that. Watching her eat the sandwich, the boy merely nodded his head and resigned himself to this probably being the norm from now on as he explored this... new life.
Following the girl across the yard, toward the mansion, he heard her mention the Avengers, something he had already known, but nodded his head politely as he added the customary "so-so" while the girl child rambled on, nearly colliding with her from behind when she suddenly drew herself to a stop and seemed to shout at someone who wasn't there.
"Oh... I was, uh, just talking to Artemis... but... but you can't hear her so, um... Anyway, c'mon!"
The young Japanese boy merely hung his head and sighed. It was true, there were other's cursed with having to deal with annoying ghosts who just wouldn't die...
What was that you were thinking, brat-chan, the spirit of the lecherous Shaolin demanded, the ghost leaning over Hiro's shoulder to glare at the boy, who for his part merely walked through the apparition to follow after Amy.
"Wakarimasu," he stated quietly behind her. "I... ano... understand what you say."
"I have ghost which speak to me that you not see, either," the boy commented casually, thinking that this girl could probably actually understand just what that was like. "He say he like your sword."
"He the spirit of my sword, in bag," the boy added, thinking that when Amy and he found his room, that he could show her Hiroame. While it was not as impessive as her sword, it had a history with his family, so he really didn't compare the two. He was as proud of the sword as he was of his family; in fact, the two were almost one in the same.

Amy swallowed the last of the sandwich, which had disappeared at a remarkable rate, and smiled at the boy. "You talk to ghosts? Cool! I've never seen a ghost, though my dad always said some ancient burial sites were haunted. He..." Her voice trailed off as she thought about her missing father, but she quickly pushed it aside, not wanting to even consider the possibility that he might be a wandering spirit himself now. "Um, anyway... Artemis and Athena are goddesses. From Greece!"
The change of topics rapidly improved her momentarily depressed enthusiasm, returning to something she not only felt certain of, but comforted by as well. "Athena is the goddess of wisdom and Artemis is goddess of the hunt, but they're kinda like big sisters to me." She paused again, her steps slowing as she made a face, frowning slightly. "Big sisters that I can't see and that like to tell me what to do all the time."
We only advise you, dearest. The choices shall always be ultimately up to you. "I know..." She cast her eyes downward, as though she'd been chastised for something. "I just wish I could see you." I am sorry, Amy, but we are not able to do so at this time. Maybe someday, kiddo.
Her face lit up into a grin, the word "someday" not having quite the same meaning to a child as it would to an adult. "Someday? Like maybe next week?" A little longer than that. Now stop ignoring your new friend.
"My new... oh!" She spun to face Hiro, blushing faintly. "I'm sorry! I'm just so used to being alone, I—" She fought to find an explanation, but failed, her shoulders slumping. "Sorry... um, you said something about a sword? Does it change you, too?" If nothing else, uncertainty and embarrassment at least slowed down her rate of speech, so perhaps he could digest what she was saying without getting a headache. A thought occurred to her, then, connecting his face with the cartoons she'd seen and making the question irresistible. "Are you a ninja?"

"Big sisters, ne," the boy echoed with a soft smile and a quiet chuckle, unable to stop himself from flashing an ironic kind of glance over his shoulder at the ethereal figure of Hiroame. Such a kind mentorship was far from the relationship that the child and the ghost of the Chinese sword had. "Must be... nice."
Having been speaking really more for the benefit, or harassment, of Hiroame, the boy hadn't noticed Amy's lapse into conversation with her own unseen forces, turning in surprise as she seemed abashed about forgetting him. Used to being alone. The tone of her voice invoked the stirrings of memories which the boy held at arms length. Yeah, I can understand that.
"Change me," he echoed again, when she mentioned his sword. Would that mean that her sword was part of her transformation into that adult? No, that didn't seem right. He must not have understood correctly. "No, it's just old, rust..."
I am NOT rusted!
"...ano... how you say, antique," the boy finished with a nod, unable to keep from smiling at the reaction his comment had drawn from the invisible peanuts gallery.
The events having already put him in a better mood, the boy giggled when asked if he was a ninja. "Boku wa... ninja dewa nai, yo," he blurted out with a light laugh that seemed somewhat hollow, despite being sincere; and a lop-sided, gentle smile that highlighted a dimple on his cheek, yet still a left shadow draped like a shroud across his face.
"Ano... what I say is, no," the boy stated next, catching his breath as he paused to recount his words in the girl's language. "I am not ninja. Or samurai. I.. I just Hiro."
Scratching the back of his head for a moment, the boy glanced away as he realized he was getting comfortable talking with someone who was... well, that wasn't to say that she wasn't a good person... and he was sure that she had lots of good qualities maybe... and being able to transform into an adult was definately a superpower any kid would want to have.. but, there was simply no getting around it...
She was a girl.
"So... ano..." he began, pausing as he tried to think of something to say next. What could he say? Making conversation with girls wasn't something that he did often. Ask her if she had any toys? What did girls play with? She probably had a bunch of dolls or something like that...
He shuffled his feet in a nervous, uncomfortable kind of manner, standing there as if he was unsure of just what to do next.

Amy smiled brightly at the boy's response, making an unintentional pun with his name. "You're a hero? Cool! That's what I wanna be. A super-hero! That'd be even better than being a ninja, I think." Still smiling, she turned and began moving down the hall once again, making a wide motion with her arm to indicate that he should follow. "C'mon! There's so many neat things to see around here!"
The most interesting parts tended to be off limits to her, but in a house as big as that, there was always something worth looking at. "And you should see our rooms! They're huge!" Spreading her arms to emphasize the point, her pace quickened and she looked back over her shoulder. "And then you can show me your sword... but only if you can keep up!" Without any further explanations, Amy took off down the corridor at a run, laughing as she did.
