Vladimir Giurescu was an officer during the Napoleonic Wars who commanded both Prussian and Austrian troops. His nationality is uncertain, but he made his home at Castle Giurescu in Romania. Napoleon referred to him as "Giurescu the Devil". He was horribly wounded at the siege of Halberstadt. Doctors predicted that he'd die within an hour. Giurescu's servants insisted on carrying him home. Two weeks later he rejoined his troops fully restored to youth and vigor. He was wounded numerous times throughout the war and subsequently revitalized. Word spread that Giurescu kept a chamber in Castle Giurescu where his body was laid out underneath the light of the full moon and healed.
In 1944 Giurescu met with Adolph Hitler. The details of their meeting are uncertain, but a partnership was not forged. Shortly after their meeting, Hitler called for the arrest and execution of Giurescu and his family. Days later, one man and seven women were found at Castle Giurescu lying in dirt-filled boxes. They were impaled, decapitated and burned. Their ashes were sent to Hitler, but the ashes never made it.
Giurescu's ashes were kept in Howard Steinman's New York museum of oddities. Ilsa Haupstein killed Steinman in 1996 and Giurescu's ashes were finally returned to Castle Giurescu in Romania for his resurrection. After being revived, Giurescu was defended from Hellboy by The Women of Thessaly who then gave him the blood of Hecate to speed his resurrection. He met Hellboy in the woods surrounding his castle and was killed in a brief battle. His skeleton was held in B.P.R.D. headquarters in Fairfield, Connecticut but disappeared after being put in temporary storage at the Bucharest airport. It has not been recovered.
