Michael slowly got himself back on his feet, keeping a careful eye on the events unfolding before him. It seemed this other fellow went through some sort of inner conflict, but Michael was relieved to see that he trusted him enough to follow his instructions, going so far as to lay himself completely on the ground before the great beast Khalifa had become.
“Just as I thought…” Michael thought to himself, as Silverback went through all the tell-tale motions of a dominant male assuring his proper place within a ‘pack’, “Khalifa is completely in ‘animal mode’. Now, I only hope I have not misjudged how gorillas react in such situations…”
He held his breath tersely as Silverback grunted, growled, snorted, and kicked the prone figure lying before him.
“Surely that could not have hurt him… Too much, at any rate.” Tomahawk’s thoughts were interrupted, however, as the surroundings darkened and became encased in shadow. Through the dark, he could barely make out Silverback- likewise surprised by this sudden turn of events, and… Another gorilla?? A sudden panic overcame him as he realized that this could be the effects of Darkforce, the one substance or energy he was particularly vulnerable to. His attention snapped back to Silverback, who was now standing, hooting, and beating his chest, and before Tomahawk could react, had taken off towards the alleyway’s exit.
“This darkness, these shadows… NO.” Tomahawk thought to himself, bringing a Plasma ‘hawk into his hand with an audible Fwwwaaassshhh!![/I][/b]. Sure enough, the shadows receded before the light cast from his Plasma ‘hawk. Using it as a crude sort of flashlight, Michael raced towards the exit, hopping over top of the prone stranger, and leaving the other gorilla behind him.
“That other gorilla can only be Bengaline- or perhaps some trick. At least, I hope it is Bengaline. I need to keep up with Silverback- in this state, he could accidentally harm innocents…” Tomahawk thought as he raced out of the alleyway, and suddenly found himself blinking, blinded by the bright sunlight outside of the alley. After a few seconds, his eyes had adjusted, and he could clearly see the ‘Rover, and a semi-familiar figure crawling into the back seat. His attention, however, was snapped away by a news crew interviewing the firefighters at the scene, and now headed his way…
“…and this lady from the Avengers- at least I figger she was from the Avengers- she was wearin’ some costume, anyhow- came over and asked for a rope, and…”
“Hey look! There’s one of ‘em now!”
“Oh no…” Tomahawk thought as the camera and reporter hurried over his direction, “Now what am I supposed to do?” He quickly allowed his Plasma 'hawk to dissipate and braced himself for the reporter's onslaught.
“Excuse me! Hi! Kate Cartwright, Channel 7 News. Is it true that the Avengers were here on the scene? Are you new to the Avengers? What’s your name? Can you comment on the report that a dangerous Mutant caused this fire here today? Was there a battle going on inside the building?”
Tomahawk could hardly think and barely understand this reporter-woman, babbling his direction at a hundred miles an hour. But he knew he had to say something.
“Uh..” he stammered, “Avengers? No- I… I mean, We… We’re from Tribal, not the Avengers… I don’t know anything about the ‘Avengers’. My name is Tomahawk, and I am new here.” The light from the camera was annoying, but even more annoying was the fact that this whole affair was keeping him from getting to his friend. He quickly continued,
“I do not believe there was any battle inside, and I have not seen any ‘dangerous mutants’. We heard the call that there was a fire and people trapped inside, and we came to help- that’s all. Please excuse me, but I need to check on my teammates…” And with that, Tomahawk ducked to the side and used his hyper-running to get as far away from that deathtrap as possible.
Arriving at the ‘Rover, he looked into the back seat, and sure enough- there was Khalifa, back as Khalifa.
“He seems to be ok, but somewhat shaken…” He thought.
“Hau, Kola- are you ok? It’s me, Michael- Khalifa, are you ok?”
Spotting one of the comsets, he quickly grabbed it and sent a message to Bengaline.
“Bengaline, this is Tomahawk,” he said, “I am at the Land Rover with Khalifa- he seems to be ok, but a bit shaken up. We need to get out of here, so get back to the car as quickly as you can- and watch out for the reporters!”
