Alrighty, before I can even think about beginning an adventure or campaign, there's a few (minor) detail thingees to clarify about how I run things (in forum-type games), what you can expect, and so on and so forth. Ready? Here we go!
As much as it would be nice to have everyone sitting together at the gaming table, rolling the dice and everything, it's just not a happenin' thing in a forum (after all, if we could all sit together at the table, what would we need the forum for ?! ) So... when it comes to situations where die rolls are necessary, that falls on me as GM/ Judge. Also bear in mind, that a good deal of actions are gonna be pretty automatic- the emphasis should be on ROLEPLAY. RP Karma bonus will be liberally used . Don't worry folks, my Polyhedrons of Character Slaying +5 haven't wiped anybody out for a good while now...
Speaking of Karma... Karma can be used as outlined in the Advanced set PHB. If you really wanna make sure that you succeed at a certain task, you can spend up to 90 Karma on it to "modify the die roll", but there's always that teensy tiny chance for error. If you declare Karma is spent, then it's spent. Gone. Used. Nuff' said. Characters are responsible for keeping track of their own Karma and updating their character's profiles as such, at least once a month, if not once a week. (rest assured, I'll be keeping track here, too!)
Players have the right to Contest a ruling, but they'll need to be rather detailed about their reasons as to why it's being contested, and also need to bear in mind that sometimes certain things are necessary for storyline and plot reasons. Abuse of this right will most likely result in getting everybody else ticked off at you, as it slows gameplay down considerably. Also, there'll always be a seperate, "OOC" forum along with the campaign forum- that would be where contested callings should be resolved, not in the campaign/adventure forum itself. Likewise, contested rulings can be dealt with via IM, although I reserve the right to C&P it into the OOC forum (think of it like this: the OOC forum is also a place to set precedents for rulings and such as well).
Don't take it personal if my dice don't like you. They've been known to be cruel from time to time. I believe in Fate (as twisted as it may be...), and die rolls are final, even if rulings are subject to discussion. If/ when I use a roll of the dice, I'll put it in format like this: ((Die Roll: xx- WGYR result)) SUCCESS/FAILURE. Should be pretty self- explanitory...
In the event that I end up running more than one adventure simultaneously, rulings and precendents from one game/ campaign do not necessarily carry over into the other game as well. (Each game/ campaign has it's own flavor, after all...)
Health... Players should keep track of their own health. However, I'll also be keeping track of it as well, from one adventure to the next. When a scenario is over (designated by an <END OF THE SCENARIO> post) Health will in most (but not all) cases be reset to normal (I will state if it is otherwise). At that point, Karma will be awarded, etc, and players get the chance to "brag" and twist my arm to get extra Karma for really cool stuff they did in the scenario.
Between-the-scenes mini-adventures can be played out in their own seperate threads. IF someone else wants to take the reigns and run an adventure in the Campaign, more power to ya! Just bear in mind the Campaign flavor and such, and try and maintain... something.
Players who want to Judge a scenario in the campaign will not be permitted to run their character in anything more than a background capacity for that scenario (I've seen WAY too many cases where someone decides to Judge a game to boost their own character's karma, status, whatever. Nottagonnahappen.) Ideally, the Player's Character should drop off or be unavailable for that scenario.
Upon request, Player Characters can be NPC'd, but this is only to be used in extrenuating RL circumstances. Be advised, I, as Judge, will shelf NPC'd Player Characters into the background at the first available (game) oppurtunity. (in other words, the character goes home and watches TV or something...)
IF a player is dissatisfied with the campaign, at least do us all the favor of playing the scenario out, and then dropping out. It's just good manners.
I reserve the right to edit posts to preserve proper netiquette and maintain Comic Code Authority decency standards (*L*). Also, I likewise reserve the right to edit confusing posts into a more understandable format. A few guidelines:
Things which a character speaks aloud should always be in "quotation marks". Punctuation should also be used! Unless, of course, the character/ player is trying to express something through deliberate non-use of punctuation (ex: "ohgodohgodohgod..."). Expressions should also be somehow designated *surprised*. I prefer that things which are thought be in italics when at all possible... underlined and bold entries generally designates emphasis, or even louder speaking...
I think that should about cover it...
