14 April 1865: This is the presumed date of Abraham Sapien's birth. Also, the day President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated.
August 1882: Sir Edward Gray wrote to Queen Victoria warning her of a plot by Vladimir Giurescu to establish "a secret, evil empire in England". Later, Gray referred to Giurescu as a vampire and noted that he'd fled the country.
16 December 1916: Felix Yusupov shot Rasputin in the back and threw him into the frozen Neva River where Rasputin was contacted by the Ogdru-Jahad.
20 March 1939: During a siege on Hunte Castle in Austria, Lobster Johnson allegedly died while trying to stop the Nazis from sending a man into space. He was too late. The castle exploded during the conflict, fire spread quickly. The only survivor was Herman von Klempt.
1944: Heinrich Himmler proposed "Project Vampire Sturm" and sent a Nazi delegation to Castle Giurescu to recruit Giurescu to the war effort. The head of this delegation was Ilsa Haupstein.
3 December 1944: Hitler and Giurescu met at Wewelsburg. The next day orders were sent for the arrest of Giurescu and his family. Giurescu's family consisted of himself and six women. They were found in dirt-filled boxes, and impaled, decapitated and burned. Their ashes were sent to Hitler.
23 December 1944: "Project Ragna Rok" summoned Hellboy to Earth. He appeared in a church in East Bromwich, England and was taken into custody by First Sgt. Whitman, the Torch of Liberty and the British Paranormal Society. Shortly thereafter, Professor Trevor Bruttenholm founded the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. Also present at Hellboy's birth was an alien observer who took the pose of a U.S. military agent.
1946: Professor Trevor Bruttenholm officially adopted Hellboy.
1947: A juvenile Hellboy was lost forever to the world of man when an officer from the B.R.P.D. fed him a pancake. All the demons in Pandemonium, the capital city of Hell, screamed in frustration. Astaroth, a duke of Hell, called this moment their darkest hour.
1952: Hellboy officially became a field agent for the B.P.R.D. and was granted honorary human status by the United Nations.
15 April 1962: Liz Sherman was born in Kansas City.
1964: Hellboy first encountered the Baba Yaga in a cemetery near Bereznik, Russia. She had come to count the fingers of dead sinners. In the course of preventing the Baba Yaga from completing her task, Hellboy blinded her in one eye.
1973: First manifestation of Liz Sherman's pyrotechnic powers.
1974: Liz Sherman became an official ward of the B.P.R.D.
1984: Dr. Kate Corrigan became a consultant to the B.P.R.D.
1993: Hellboy scuffled with Herman von Klempt who, at that time, was little more than a head floating inside a bottle. After trading blows with Brutus, von Klempt's genetically engineered ape with robotic hands, Hellboy shoved von Klempt's head down Brutus throat and saved the woman they were preparing to experiment on.
1994: Professor Bruttenholm traveled to the Arctic Circle, where he accidentally awakened Rasputin, who had been meditating in front of a statue of Sedu-Hem. Rasputin then traveled to Cavendish Hall where he bewitched Emma Cavendish and prepared to unleash Ogdru-Jahad and awaken the Seven Beasts.
The B.P.R.D. was alerted to Rasputin's presence after the death of Professor Bruttenholm at the hands of a frog monster. Hellboy led a group of field agents to Cavendish Hall where Rasputin's schemes fell to waste. Rasputin died, but not before calling out to Hellboy: "Think, creature! Think! If you kill me you will never know who you are! You will never understand the power inside you." While Hellboy did reject Rasputin's offer, he began to ponder the nature of his origins.
Meanwhile, Leopold Kurtz, Ilsa Haupstein and Professor Kroener awoke from their cryogenic slumber in Norway.
1995: Hellboy returned to the place of his "birth" (the church in East Bromwich, England) for the first time since his appearance on earth. While there he met a demonic creature that called Hellboy his favorite son.
1996: the members of "Project Ragna Rok" resurrected Vladimir Giurescu. It was at Castle Giurescu where Hellboy first encountered the Women of Thessaly and Hecate, who called Hellboy by his true name, Anung Un Rama. He was told that his purpose in life was to bring Ogdru-Jahad to Earth. Hellboy refused.
Additionally, Castle Giurescu was destroyed in a bombing campaign and Hellboy killed Vladimir Giurescu during a fight in the woods. Liz Sherman discovered Roger the Homunculus. Roger absorbed a deadly amount of Liz's pyrotechnic powers in order to revitalize himself. This act left Liz on the brink of death. Professor Kroener killed Leopold Kurtz, and Professor Hermann Von Klempt was enlisted into the ranks of "Project Ragna Rok".
1997: Liz Sherman stayed in Romania to recuperate, while Hellboy and Dr. Corrigan went to investigate the disappearance of bodies in a cemetery. During their investigation they became intertwined with Roger the Homunculus, who was in the midst of a dispute with his older brother. After dispatching Roger's older brother, Hellboy subdued Roger and brought him to Liz Sherman's hospital, where Roger restored Liz back to proper health but at the cost of his own.
1998: Hellboy journeyed to Lizarza, Spain, where he met a priest named Adrian Frost. Adrian's father was Professor Malcolm Frost, who was present at Hellboy's birth on 23 December 1944.
While most of his father's papers were destroyed, Adrian was able to save one scrap that was tucked away in his father's Bible. The scrap of paper contained a drawing of Hellboy's right hand and in Old Lemurian was written; "Behold the Right Hand of Doom". The paper was tucked in between the pages of Revelations.
After discovering this information about his hand, Hellboy contemplated having it severed, but then resolved that his "Right Hand of Doom" was his burden to keep.
1999: Hellboy and Abe Sapien journeyed to Druggan Hill, England to investigate a box that held a demon, stolen from a convent by Igor Weldon Bromhead. Bromhead sold the box to a wealthy count and his wife, but tricked them into opening it. Ualac, a minor demon of hell, then possessed the countess. After capturing Hellboy, Ualac stole Hellboy's crown and gained greater power and insight. He claimed that Hellboy no longer had the right to his crown and attempted to use Hellboy's true name (Anung Un Rama) to bind him. But Hellboy had rejected this name and was able to use his horns to impale Ualac. Ualac was then miniaturized and sealed in an amber-container. Hellboy gave Ualac over to an unnamed demon that took Ualac to Pandemonium where he would be imprisoned for all eternity.
The demon promised to keep Hellboy's crown "in Pandemonium, in the house of the fly, there is a seat reserved for you. The crown will wait for you there, when you want it…call me." Hellboy told him not to hold his breath.
2001: NASA took a picture of a comet heading towards impact on earth. When the image was enlarged, the comet was revealed to be a Nazi space rocket. The rocket landed at Hunte Castle in Austria. A team of B.P.R.D. field agents (consisting of Hellboy and Roger the Homunculus) led by Laura Karnstein, a member of the Austrian Secret Police, was sent in to investigate. Upon reaching the castle, Hellboy and Roger were separated. Herman von Klempt and his servant Brutus held Hellboy captive. They were awaiting Ernst Oeming's return to the earth.
While wandering through the wilderness surrounding Castle Hunte, Roger was assisted by Lobster Johnson. Johnson told Roger that the only survivor of the explosion at Hunte Castle in 1939 was von Klempt, and trailed off when Roger asked, "Don't you mean the only Nazi survivor?"
During this time, Hellboy was held captive in the dungeon of Hunte Castle and met another prisoner. While this prisoner resembled an American soldier, he revealed himself to be a member of an alien race that had been observing the Nazis' attempt to destroy the world. Before dying, the alien gave Hellboy a tool to stop the coming of the Conqueror Worm who was destroy humankind and call to the Ogdru-Jahad to awaken the Seven Beasts and turn the earth into a cinder.
While in the bowels of Hunte Castle, Laura Karnstein, who had since been exposed to a gas that changed her into a beast-like creature, was confronted by Rasputin, who called von Klempt's schemes insane. He also explained that, "It's true the Ogdru-Jahad would break out of their prisons. They will burn the earth and kill everything. True, but out of all that death…out of the ashes…new life…new race of man…and a new world. That is what your grandfather cannot see. This is Ragna-Rok…not only an end, but a new beginning." Rasputin then planted the seed of rebirth in Karnstein and set her off to find her future. Lobster Johnson later killed her.
Roger the Homunculus, who absorbed the beast's power, much as he'd absorbed Liz Sherman's power, ultimately defeated the Conqueror Worm. Once things had settled, Hellboy quit the B.P.R.D. to sort out his place in the apocalypse and learn the purpose of his "Right Hand of Doom".
2002: Hellboy's journey took him to Africa, where he met with a wise man. Later, Hellboy was pulled into the sea where a creature known as the Bog Roosh drove a nail into his head and made him her captive. The Bog Roosh meant to kill and dismember Hellboy in order to preserve the salvation of the world.
The Bog Roosh had a vision of Hellboy dead and his right hand used to unleash Ogdru-Jahad and the world laid to waste. Hellboy broke free from the Bog Roosh and is still at the bottom of the ocean.
