Campaign Scenario: Shi’ar Earth
The Punisher killed the Marvel Universe. But this is old news, 10 years old, in fact. Frank Castle, in a fit of rage at the death of his family led a crusade which eliminated all of the Super-Heroes and Super-Villains on the earth, ending the entire thing by taking his own life. For a period of about a month, there was an uneasy calm over the earth- a sort of shock, perhaps, that one man could do so much in such a relatively short period of time. The persons of the earth should have known, however, that it is always calmest right before a storm.
Agents of the Shi’ar Empire, spies hidden amongst the populace of earth, reported the news back to the Shi’ar Imperial Homeworld, and the decision to invade earth was made almost immediately. The earth, positioned relatively close to an interstellar nexus, had long been a coveted prize for many intergalactic empires, saved and protected only by the efforts of numerous groups of earth-based Super-Heroes. With all of the Heroes and Villains of the earth gone, there would be none who could stand in their way, and they were right.
Somehow, the leaders of the earth’s governments learned of the invasion in advance, and met together in an emergency summit to discuss their possible options. What they learned too late, however, was that Warskrulls, already in place on the earth, had learned of the summit and infiltrated the meeting. In one deft stroke, all the gathered leaders were slaughtered like so many innocent lambs. The military responded swiftly, and launched a full-out, no-holds-barred defensive against the invaders, to no avail. The Shi’ar’s technology was so vastly superior to that of the earth’s military that in a matter of hours, the defensive was done and over. The Shi’ar then moved in and declared the earth property of the Shi’ar Empire.
That was 10 years ago. In the time since then, the earth has been transformed into a partial resort, partial industrial planet, host to many interstellar travelers stopping over on their way to other destinations via the nexus. The human populace on earth was allowed to survive, however they have been relegated to more-or-less slave status within the empire. The factories and services of the newly-designated pleasure planet are all handled by humans, subjugated under their Shi’ar appointed Lords. As the Shi’ar’s technology makes detecting the X-gene instantaneous, most of the mutants are detected at birth, and taken away for special training and upbringing as loyal guards and soldiers for the betterment of the Shi’ar’s imperial interests. A few slip through the cracks, and there are likewise a few “illegal” births which escape the Shi’ar Lord’s notice.
Soldiers loyal to the Shi’ar Empire patrol every street, a constant reminder to the people as to who their rulers are. They are continually fed propaganda, and any and all news received by the populace is strictly censored and controlled by the local government.
But humans, being as they are, chafe under such conditions, and a secret rebellious element has started to form- an underground of Mutants and humans of exceptional abilities. If the Shi’ar Lords were to find out about the existence of these rebels, they would surely be given a swift and painful death. Fortunately, to date, they have not. Do you have what it takes to throw off the chains of tyranny and recover your entire planet?
